--- ADAPTIVE
Whether it be student directors making last minute changes on the set to changing her choice of desired college at the last minute to free herself from having to work an extra job Kennedy is able change course quickly. Or accepting her father's suicide as he struggled with his sexuality as a married Anglican priest converted to Catholicism. Kennedy's philosophy in life is to bend so one doesn't break.
--- EMPATHETIC
So much so that others and Kennedy herself have said that she may be too empathetic at times. While it may make her a better person over all it can lead sometimes to despair and depression when presented with the darker side of human nature. On the other hand Kennedy is the first to help out those in need and is there for her friends even to the detriment of her own needs. It also allows her to see all sides of an argument, leading Kennedy to be a peacemaker.
--- GEEK
Kennedy is not so physically or socially inept to fall into the Dork category and not as well versed in as many of the 'required' esoteric subjects as the Nerd she has definately been known to geek out. Up to and including interests both technological such as custom PC builds, the latest cellphone or TV tech and even certain shows or movies that are not fashionable to like. Such interests keep Kennedy grounded and stop her from joining the drama llama train the her peers ride all to often.
LIKES: Acting (duh), technology, chocolate, playing/watching sports, enchiladas, sci-fi, gaming, Bioware. reading in the bath, sleeping in, RAOK's, pets of all stripes, cheesy karoke
DISLIKES: knee-jerk conservatism, knee-jerk liberalism, bellpeppers, misers, Activision, white chocolate, Fox, off brand electronics, Walmarts, snobs
Kennedy Makenzie Tanith was born to Johnathan and Mary Tanith in San Jose, California. Johnathan was a newly ordained Anglican priest and Mary an elementary school teacher. Home life for Kennedy was good, quiet and not as close as some of her classmates but without most of the visible problems the rest had. For as long as she could remember her parents had an invisible barrier between them and while they cared for one another there was no agape or eros as the Greeks would say 'merely' philia or storge. Jonathan was deeply involved in the ministries to the disadvantaged of the greater Bay Area and while he instructed Kennedy in his faith she learned more from his charitable acts, for it was then that Jonathan was truly himself and at ease. Kennedy was closer to her mother Mary, who held onto the child as though afraid she might somehow lose her. Occasionally though resentment would creep in, particularly when Kennedy would display some of the traits she inherited from her father. Still it was her mother urging to explore, learn and develop that lead to Kennedy's success today.
The childhood of Kennedy could be considered pretty average for the most part. She got good grades and participated in various extra-curricular activities. Basketball and Drama being the most prominent with the latter winning out in popularity in the long run. Kennedy was bitten by the acting bug early on. Some would say it started in Kindergarten where in the pageant she played Goldilocks, Ms. 8 and Ms. . (period). As the productions became more complex Kennedy found herself more drawn in. Though perhaps cliche to say Kennedy was a natural when it came to the stage and combined with her ability to memorize her part(s) in what sometimes amounted to a matter of a few hours to knowing the entire script by heart by the end of the week allowed her to excel at acting. Her abilities and work ethic also lead the budding filmmakers of her high school to seek her out for their homegrown films.
When Kennedy was 18 years old, shortly after her high school graduation, her father committed suicide by jumping from the Golden Gate Bridge. Tension had been growing it seemed for two years since his conversion to Catholicism but Kennedy had underestimated the width of the gulf that had always separated the family. After the funeral Kennedy took possession of her father extensive journals and studied them. Slowly she came to understand her father, the quiet desperation with which he had lead his life, the worry that he had passed on his 'sickness' to his child and regret for dragging his best friend Mary into the whole situation and denying her a happier life. That act and the written words left behind had an understandably deep effect on Kennedy. It helped her decide to go after her dream of working in the entertainment industry and to not settle for the life one was expected to live.
Why Emerson?
Emerson was quite simply the highest quality school that Kennedy applied to that gave her enough of a scholarship combined with her and her parents savings to provide her with a comfortable existence without having to work to the detriment of her schooling. In truth Kennedy would've liked to have chosen an college in California but Emerson was, at the end of evaluations based on certain criteria, simply the best choice.
Depending on ones view of the situation there were several ways to measure the distances between the water below. 245 feet was the easiest answer, thought Kennedy if the most literal. It was also a mere 48 inches away, the height of the railing that ran the length of the bridge. And once over that railing it would take a human only 4 seconds to crash into the depths at 75 miles per hour. What lead one jumper to wait mere moments and another hours?
A strong gust of cold wind blew across Kennedy's back causing her to pause her thoughts for a moment and rub blue tinged fingers together in a losing battle to return warmth to the bare hands. She hated gloves, but the Golden Gate Bridge at dusk on a blustery day such as this was no day for Kennedy to be without them. Whatever it was that lead someone to that fateful decision is was an impulsive one, studies clearly showed that of those few that managed to survive the regret of making that decision was universal, to the point the 98 percent of the survivors would never go on to try and take their lives again. Over 1300 victims and counting....how many had spent the last 4 seconds of their lives with regret?
It was obvious to Kennedy that some of these thought's were also passing through the mind of the bike cop who had just pulled up behind her. He introduced himself and began conversing with her, asking standard questions and generally just easing into conversation. The concern made Kennedy smile, reassured her that there we still people in the world the noticed and care, even if the concern was not called for in this case. But her time left here was short, indeed it was time to go.
“I appreciate your concern Officer, but you needn't worry this time I'm not here to die.” Kennedy smiled and reached down to the loosely packaged asphodel flowers at her feet. “My father jumped from here almost two years ago.” She briefly indicated the 69th pole which was by far the most popular sport for jumpers, musing for a moment that if fate had a sense of humor it was apparently a prurient one. “I'm flying out of SFO tonight , first year of college and out of state, so I came to spread these...” Kennedy explained as she loosed the flowers to the winds. She stopped for a moment of silence, observing that the officer had joined her. After the pause it was Kennedy who broke the silence.
“Thanks for looking out for me though, I'll call if I see anything of concern on my walk back I'll call the hotline.” And with brief pleasantries and goodbyes exchanged Kennedy set off at a brisk walk back to her rental car. It was time to leave this particular bridge behind her, without burning it of course.
