Ruby really had no idea what had just happened, and what she was getting herself into. Had she really agreed to tacos and study with Corbin? Even if Corbin actually meant to study, which she was sure he did- He was Corbin after all, and she had to work pretty hard to get him to play board games with her. He wasn’t the sort to use study as a euphemism for less savoury things but even knowing that fact, she was still worried. Dubious about if this whole thing was a good idea. She should have said no. In fact she had said no at first. There was just something about the whole offer that she couldn’t resist. And really? It wasn’t the tacos... It was.. the ‘tacos’. Arg. Now her metaphors were confusing her. Corbin had been right to question her grasp on the English language. She was really failing at making any sense right now.
What she meant was- well. She just shouldn’t even be spending time with Corbin. At least not alone. Very busy, crowded places, but not alone. When she had just, felt some strange attraction to him that she had chalked up to a school-girl crush she could put it aside. Alright, so his texts had still managed to make her smile and even blush, which made her a little frustrated at herself. And spending time with him still spent nice.. But she could ignore it. Tell herself that she wasn’t getting attached to him and things would pass. And maybe they would have- had things not crossed the line. He’d kissed her. Or they’d kissed, she wasn’t sure if she could remember who initiated it. That didn’t matter though. What had mattered was how the kiss had made her feel. It had been sweet and romantic and well, far too intense to be ignored. Which meant she was going to have to ignore it all the more.
Studying with him, though? Was that really a good idea? I mean sure sure we’ve covered that Corbin actually liked to study, but she’d seen enough bad nineties teen movies to know that studying was always the precursor to something. All she knew, was that she couldn’t afford it to be the precursor to anything besides sleep or a good game of boggle. Scrabble was out of course, she wasn’t going push that point. She really would like a nice board game though. Sure, the girl liked good grades but she wasn’t as dedicated as the boy seemed to be. That, and he had a bit more homework then she had, so it was understandable that she didn’t have to devote as much time to it.
Locking the phone after sending the last text, Ruby’s hazel eyes glanced around. She really did need to find her shoes. Corbin’s suggestion of going shoeless was just not going to happen. The blonde really didn’t like going anywhere shoeless. It just felt kind of, well dirty. Spying her flip-flops in the corner beside the door, Ruby moved over to them. Slipping them on her feet. She guessed she should also grab her homework. Ho-hum. Collecting her maths and science books, the youth made her way from the room. She’d conned him into coming to meet her, the most she could do was meet him out the front of her dorm building. Though, he liked tacos better than her, so changing into some tights and making him suffer was looking pretty good.

Corbin hadn’t intended for his tacos to become some insane metaphor for something he didn’t exactly understand. Of course, he got what Ruby was trying to get at but he outright refused to talk about it. It wasn’t worth dwelling on when he was trying to move on from it. In fact, the more he pushed it away the easier it was to do things like invite Ruby over for tacos. What was the harm? They were friends, right? Besides, it hadn’t been like Corbin had planned on inviting her over. It just came up. He saw no harm in trying to continue their friendship after the little speed bump they had run into. It would all get better with time, tacos or not. Of course it was weird. They’d kissed and it wasn’t just a cute peck on the cheek hello but at the same time it hadn’t been a tongue-in-your-mouth-do-me kiss either. It was somewhere in the middle but it definitely crossed the comfort line. Could they cross it off as a mistake and put it behind them? Or was it really a mistake at all? He didn’t want to think about it. Having caved to Ruby’s insistence that he meet her at her dorm, Corbin walked out of his way after picking up the tacos he planned on pigging out on, to stand awkwardly in front of the building. He’d never liked student housing. He’d tried it for a short while but it didn’t vibe with him well. There was always the need to be quiet when other people were studying yet they never had that decency when you were, and there was the living with strangers thing. Corbin was lucky when his grandparents, who funded his education and life here, offered to pay for off campus housing. His apartment was small but it made sense for Corbin. He could study all night if he wanted or he could strum guitar in his boxer shorts. It didn’t matter, because the place was his. Naturally, he’d thought about a roommate a few times, just to split the cost with his grandparents but aside from a good friend he didn’t really feel comfortable living with anyone else. He didn’t necessarily want to enter the building. It was almost certain to be filled with high school girls giggling and dancing about or whatever arts students did for fun. Corbin didn’t know. He just assumed their world was a little bit different than an academic students world. A lot of his time was spent studying or reading or just chilling when he didn’t have any class work to do, or class to go to. But he imaged arts students had things like dance moves and paintings to do. Just another reason why student living sucked. Arts students had to be almost impossible to live with. He thought about shouting at her but didn’t think she could hear. It would be stupid to make a scene in front of the dorm building. So he entered, but didn’t go passed the main floor and instead opted to take out his cell phone and let her know he was waiting and that if she didn’t get down there soon he was leaving without her, tacos and all. Hoping she wasn’t up there dressing to the nines, Corbin looked down at himself. Pajamas. He was serious when he’d said he’d gone to school in them. He did it a lot, actually. Nobody seemed to notice or mind when he strolled into class with his green and blue plaid pajama bottoms and white v-neck. Sometimes, like today, he’d opt for a hoodie but he was making no effort to be presentable. They were only going to eat tacos and study, that was his whole night planned out. And once he’d had enough of studying he’d probably watch a movie and go to sleep. After he’d gotten Ruby back to her room, of course. But hey, the girl could walk herself back, couldn’t she? It was definitely time for another text. ‘Hurry up, tacos are getting cold.’

Ruby had been half-way down the stairs when she stopped. She’d forgotten her sketch book. The girl didn’t exactly have a lot of homework to do, and if she got bored and couldn’t convince him to play a board game with her, she’d need something to do. She knew Corbin enough to know that taking her camera was a bad move. He’d get frustrated if she was constantly shoving it in his face. So drawing was probably the best boredom option. Turning around, she quickly dashed back up the stairs towards her dorm. As she was un-locking her door, the blonde heard her phone beep. Rolling her eyes, she didn’t even need to check her phone to know that it was Corbin. The boy was so impatient. It was a little frustrating sometimes. Could he not wait an extra few moments for his precious tacos? Dashing into her room, she grabbed her sketch book, pausing for a moment. Screw Corbin and his ‘must study’, she wanted her camera. There wasn’t many places she went without it actually.
Exciting the room and locking it once more, Ella picked up her speed as she made her way back down the stairs. Slinging her camera bag over her left shoulder as she walked. If Corbin asked why she had her camera, she’d just claim it was for homework. What did he expect? She studied art- she had to do arty sort of things for homework. Just because he wanted to be all boring with what he studied, didn’t mean she had to be. Actually, She couldn’t lie, his advertising classes sounded interesting. Ruby had often thought that maybe she’d like to use her visual skills in some sort of career like advertising. She had actually looked at her photos from time to time and got lost in imagining what sort of product it could be advertising. Other times she second-guessed herself. Thinking she’d rather do something a little more completely artistic with her skills. Gah, she was so indecisive.
Not that any of that mattered right now. She had time to work out her future later. What did matter, was getting down to Corbin before he lost his patience completely. Ruby knew she pushed him sometimes. She wasn’t sure why to be honest. It wasn’t part of her usual nature to push boundaries with people, but when it came to the strange haired boy, she felt the need to see how far she could make him go for her. There was one reason as to why, however Ruby was perfectly content to ignore that little thought for as long as she needed. She was one floor away from the ground level when she heard her phone go off again. “Oh gosh..” she moaned slightly, pausing to take her phone out and read his messages. Really, how did he expect her to get done any faster when he kept sending her texts that she needed to stop and read. Picking up her pace again, she sent a hurried text back. impatient jerk, i’m coming.
As she reached the ground level, Ruby started to feel her stomach twist in knots. Nerves she didn’t realise would even be there slowly setting in. Biting her lip, the young woman let her eyes dart around. It wasn’t hard to find the boy, considering it was the girl’s dorms. Moving up behind him, Ruby gave his side a soft poke to announce her presence. However the moment she touched him, she wished she hadn’t. An odd sort of spark shot through her, starting from her finger. Withdrawing quickly, the youth tried to hide her blush by turning the attention onto Corbin. “Wow, you weren’t lying about wearing pyjama pants..”
