A lot of girls, at least that she knew, required attention 24 hours a day 7 days a week. They needed the constant reassurance that people approved of them and wanted to be around them, and though Dane had days where it certainly helped to have friends around, she had always been the kind of person who revelled in alone time. She studied as hard as humanly possible without falling apart (though she was prone to a couple panic attacks and freak-out sessions now and again due to stress) and enjoyed quiet moments where she could sit and chill out or just collect her thoughts.
Strolling through the love park, one of her favourite places to come back when she was in a relationship, holding hands, skating, and leaning up against one another behind a tree, it was a perfectly serene spot. She carried the morning newspaper that she hadn't the chance to finish before class in one hand while sipping an Earl Grey tea from the nearby cafe in the other hand, blowing into the peephole of the plastic cap to cool it down before throwing it back.
Eager to finish the SoDoKu's, Dane scanned the area for an open spot. The grass was sticky and wet from the autumn weather transitioning into winter, and she didn't want to risk the chance of staining the hem of her white blouse by most of the benches were occupied by kissing young lovers, playful children and parents, or the one nearby where a boy next to a guitar case was scribbling furiously.
“I don't mean to interrupt,” Her Southern accent sounding like butter over a biscuit that had just been pulled from the oven, she stood in front of his knees and looked down with deer-in-the-headlight blue eyes peering at him. Dane tried to be as polite as possible, what if she had just intruded on him writing something really important like notes for a history paper, or a love song for his girlfriend, or even a suicide note. “Is someone sitting there?” With her paper cup, she pointed toward the empty space beside him on the bench.
