--- FIERCE
Maxi is the kind of girl that you just don’t want to mess with, especially when it comes to her passions. She’s often seen as a perfectionist. If things aren’t going how she wants, Max tends to flip shit. When people try to push their beliefs and opinions on her, she gets defensive about it. Her thoughts are her own, and people that try to change them piss her off. However, as a hypocrite, Maxi often thinks that she’s right; convincing the world of this, making everyone conform to her idea of life, is her mission.
As a vegetarian, Maxi will turn her nose up to meat. Eggs and milk are fine. She realizes that calcium and protein are important in a diet; she’s not retarded. However, the idea of eating something that has feelings makes her cringe. She views it as vicious, vulgar, and disgusting. Plants are inanimate objects. Feeling isn’t possible. Eating something that had a family; could see the world that she saw; and drank the same water, or ate some of the same plants seems cannibalistic to her. Although cannibalism is eating of the same species, eating something that simply looks and communicates you differently but has relatively same thoughts seems revolting.
When it comes to her music, Maxi gets anal. Sure, you chuckle now, but once her bitch side comes out because someone’s singing a note a few cents flat… You better have that smirk wiped off of your face. It’s not that she’s the best with words. That’s definitely not the case. Try as she may, Maxi isn’t very original with insults, let alone threats. However, she finds that a glare and putting her 5’9” figure up against someone else’s can come off as a tad intimidating. When it comes to personal bubbles, Maxi isn’t afraid to get into them. However, for someone to get into hers can sometimes be detrimental to their health.
--- PICKY
Maxi, Maxi, Maxi. She’s always turning her nose up to things. Everything from her food choices to who she takes criticism from goes through her like or dislike filter. Also, although she seems to have an eclectic choice in music, she’s very picky to what songs she’ll tolerate. If there’s one thing fucked up in a song for one second and she recognizes it, the song will be hated. Also, if the singer totally sucks ass in concert, they’re not a real artist to Max. If someone has to use a computer to make them able to sing than they’re considered a money-grubbing failure that hit the jackpot randomly. Starving artists get much more respect from Max; it doesn’t matter if it’s vocal, 2D, ceramics, sculpting, and even performance. She’s dabbled into a bit of everything in both high school and a little in college. She realizes that her voice is her strong suit, and admires other people who have mastered other forms of art. Voice students are her competition, though. At an arts school, it’s expected that voice students have a good grip on their sound. They know the technicalities, and how to produce different types of sounds for different styles. Max can be very judgmental when it comes to her major-peers, and only chooses to acknowledge people she thinks are worth her time. Can’t read solfedge? Fail. Ignored. Can’t subdivide? Wow. You suck. You don’t even know what that note is? What the hell are you doing at Emerson? Get the fuck out. Yeah. That’s pretty much how Maxi is.
Boys worth spending time with are especially hard for Maxi to find. They’re always coming up to her, starting small talk, asking for her number, but when she starts to get close to them they try to change her. That just shit doesn’t fly. Looks are also hard to come by, for Maxi. Maxi, herself, is all about the ‘different‘. She colors her hair often, has her nose and belly button pierced, and wears clothes that are a little… out there. A guy that’s a little… unique intrigues her. Someone who’s not in a crisp suit, has a bit of shadow, and doesn’t mind a little PDA? Yeah. She’s all over that shit.
--- IMPULSIVE
Looking before she leaps is a definite problem that Maxine needs to break. It often gets her into trouble, and she usually ends up putting her foot in her mouth. Although things Max usually says are honest, they may not be appropriate for situations. She’ll curse at the drop of a hat, not even realizing it. It’s a bad habit, and seemingly impossible to break. When talking with people, she’ll be upfront and tell them whether they’re pissing her off, and why. She may regret what she says later, but since most of the things she says are honest thoughts, Maxi lets pride get the best of her. Apologies make her head hurt.
Boys are another thing. Being of the drinking age, Maxi likes to party. She also likes to make out. A lot. With lots of people. It doesn’t even matter what gender they are. Actually having sex doesn’t happen too often; she doesn’t like the idea of forgetting what happened the night before. A bit of liquor just gives her the courage to approach people she wanted to kiss in the first place. Sure, rumors may fly around that she totally fucked that dude in the back of his car that one night, and had a threesome last week with another girl, but Max just laughs. The best thing is when they go to whip their dick out or something, and she just leaves. Oh, the agony they must be going through. The life of a tease is a fun one. It’s nice to know she’s desirable.

Dover was a good place to grow up. Maxi’s parents, Tammy and Duane, raised her in a fairly well-off household. Mum worked as a restaurant manager, and Dad was a journalist. One day, when Max was about 9 or 10, mom got an offer to manage a restaurant in the states, and the white cliffs were no longer Maxi’s home. Instead she moved to a land where rolling hills of green didn’t exist, and everything seemed to be made of concrete. There was one thing that didn’t change, though. Everywhere she went, there was music.
With Dover being a tourist-attracting town, music was a must in pubs and random venues. The Atkins family had packed up and moved to Baltimore, where it wasn’t odd to see posters promoting concerts pretty much everywhere. As Maxi grew up, she started to get into the scene. Being an only child gave her a spoiled attitude. The fact that her parents let her get away with a lot didn’t help. She’d often sneak off and use her allowance to get into shows that didn’t have any sort of age minimum. She found herself critiquing other people’s sounds, the more she learned about music in school.
It wasn’t long until Maxi started wanting to be the one on stage. Her parents hired a voice coach to work with her a couple nights out of the week, and Maxi got together a group of friends that were interested in starting a band. Her style was different, and it got a little bit of recognition for Maxi. However, recognition came with a price. After one of those immature, “You make it seem like the band’s nothing to you,” arguments, she decided to split off. Writing her own songs wasn’t easy, considering she could barely play a keyboard, but after learning a few chords on the guitar she seemed to manage.
Maxi still has those songs scribbled in a notebook, which is kept safely in a drawer at her apartment. Occasionally she’ll still write in it, but no one’s ever seen it. In college, Maxi quickly learned that her private thoughts should stay that way. She isn’t quite ready to let anyone see her soft side. Her songs seem to bring out just that, and she’d kill the person who ever read those and managed to get into her head.
Why Emerson?
Maxi adores her parents. Well, it‘s not really adoration- she loves them because they love to give her things. That‘s what she likes to say, anyway. Emerson may be out of state, but it‘s relatively close to home. It‘s far enough away that her parents won‘t hear of all the naughty things she does, but they‘re close if she ever needs to run home and get some good, homemade grub.
Also, an arts college is perfect for Maxine. She can focus purely on her art, and not have to worry so much about Gen. Ed. classes. Creativity pours out of this place like curse words out of a sailor‘s mouth. It‘s a damn good time, and she doesn‘t regret the decision whatsoever.
I play Kae Hansen, for a reference. =]
